happy fourth

I’m a little late on holiday wishes, having sunk into the stupor of beach living.  What day is it, anyway?

Since we weren’t there to celebrate the 4th with you, I thought I’d share a conversation that took place on that day as we came off the bay bridge into Destin, passing Destin Commons on the way to our condo.  Let me say here that I am not really a mall person, and Destin Commons  a mall, but it has got to be one of the prettiest malls ever.  You walk around outside, and there’s music playing, and a beautiful fountain, and Panera Bread…

But I digress.  The point here is that my children apparently feel the same way. Because as we pass the Commons, I hear:

Jonathan:  Oooohhhh, it’s Destin Commons!  I love that place.

Bryan (who, incidentally, loves all malls, not just the pretty ones):  I know Jonathan.  It’s like a little city inside a city.

Jonathan:  I want to live in that city.

Bryan: [looks at me; obviously we have raised this child well]

Jonathan:  I mean, it has everything you need.  There’s food, and (gesturing towards the beach) water, and great shops.  What else could you want?

what a sight to see on the 4th of July
