light up my life

I have to admit, some small part of me was glad when I woke up to cold rain today.  I knew the time had come:

Nothing cheers me out of the gray like Christmas lights.  Yes, mine are still up.  Even better?  ON.  Our neighbors love us!

These lights, though, are like nothing else I’ve ever seen.  This, friends, is the end of the long driving day on our trek down to Kerrville each year. Johnson City is where we pull through the DQ, get a little treat, and stop for the magic show.

What I couldn’t seem to convey in these pictures is the sheer scale of it all: an entire city block packed full of live oak trees, completely covered in lights.  Little ones snaking around the curves of the trunks and branches, big airy ones nestled in the leaves.  All courtesy of the Pedernales County Electric Cooperative.

People mill around, quietly.  Even the children running around don’t seem loud.  The simple white lights somehow create a whole other world.

One that can still warm me on a cold spring night.

I love, love the magic of white twinkle lights everywhere. I don’t blame you a bit for leaving yours up as long as you can…
