rambling monologues about my life
Sometimes I look around the internets and find wonderful things to share:
Things that make me think, like this article a mother wrote about taking her kids to a soup kitchen. Got there from here.
Or this exhibit called The Lives They Left Behind, assembled from the suitcases of people entering a state mental hospital. Incredibly intriguing. I spent way too much time here the other day, unable to tear myself away from the stories.
And then, moving on… Sometimes, in the strangest places, I read a quote that I completely resonate with, like when I read Stephen Colbert describing the process of Jon Stewart’s satire:
“We often discuss satire — the sort of thing he does and to a certain extent I do — as distillery,” Mr. Colbert continued. “You have an enormous amount of material, and you have to distill it to a syrup by the end of the day. So much of it is a hewing process, chipping away at things that aren’t the point or aren’t the story or aren’t the intention. Really it’s that last couple of drops you’re distilling that makes all the difference. It isn’t that hard to get a ton of corn into a gallon of sour mash, but to get that gallon of sour mash down to that one shot of pure whiskey takes patience” as well as “discipline and focus.”
If you’re a Jon Stewart fan, you’re gonna want to read that whole article.
And of course, if you’re me, your husband sometimes sends you an article on how one man is planning to take over the world with electric cars. Starting with Israel. If you read the whole thing, you’ll believe he can do it by the end. And you will want your own. Certainly better than spending your money like this.
Ok! If you’ve followed all even one of those links you’ve probably had enough heavy reading for now. So let’s take a dance break with my favorite commercial of the summer…
Two things:
And last but not least, just so you can have something to look forward to - my most anticipated upcoming movie, Burn After Reading. Brad Pitt, George Clooney, John Malkovich - all of whom pale in comparison to the fantastic Francis McDormand, not to mention Tilda Swinton - directed by the Coen brothers. In a dark comedy. Be still my Raising Arizona-loving heart.
Need to see more? Go right ahead.
Ok, friends, I think that’s more than enough for today. Click away!

I love that moment when the lights go down and the curtain comes up. I love it whether I'm on stage or in the audience, because either way, the story is about to begin. I see life as a series of scenes: some with fabulous costumes, some with witty lines, others that I wish I could edit out. This is where I try to find the stories, pin down the scenes just right.

that’s funny, ’cause I was thinking it would’ve been like that if Bucket and I were college roommates.
