Last year, Alison talked me into splitting a bag of corn with her. A very, very big bag. A bushel, I think. Actually, I think she said, “I’m buying this either way, but if you want, you can split it with me.” We were at the River Market and Jody Hardin (who runs the BAM program) was raving about this corn. Raving. As in lunatic. Swore it was the best corn he’d EVER EATEN.
I’m not a corn freak, but the rest of my family loves it, and it does freeze – so, feeling slightly like an oddball, I split the bag with her. We had to drag it on a cart just to get it in the car. It felt like throwing a dead body in the back. I imagine, anyway.
Well, this year I’m the lunatic. Because I went back and bought the bag all by myself this year. Because it is the best corn we’ve EVER EATEN. Even for someone who’s not a corn fan. Every time I fed it to anyone, they went on and on about how wonderful it was. We ate our last batch from last summer just a few weeks ago – and yes, still great. So great that we shucked and froze about 75 ears of it today. Two whole laundry baskets full of corn silks and shucks. Yeah, I know. Raving.
Want some? Come on over. Right now there’s no more room for anything else in my freezer, including ice cream. As soon as the rest of my family figures that out, either me or that corn may be out on our ear…
tears in my eyes!
i may wanna some of that corns…
I will be right over…
i got some of that corn last year, came straight home and cooked some. growing up, we always put butter and salt on our corn on the cob (just the way my mom taught us it had to be done), but this corn … i tried it plain, just hot out of the boiling water, no salt, no butter. it was so good i almost cried.
