My husband is all about the perks. If there’s an angle, he’s gonna work it. Swag? He’ll bring it home, times 3. I wish I had been blogging back when he went to the International Poultry Expo: oh, the many forms of plastic chickenware that overtook our home. Chicken pen, anyone? How about a light up chicken? How about one that poops tiny plastic eggs?
But sometimes this propensity for perk-iness really pays off – and friends, today was such a day. One of Bryan’s firm’s clients is Magic Springs, and they found themselves in need of a new commercial to run for the summer. Unfortunately, the shoot they had lined up a couple of weeks ago got completely rained out, and when they rescheduled, they somehow lost the children that had formerly agreed to participate in the filming. Kids are crazy busy these days…
Do you see where this is going? Magic Springs has the camera crew coming, but no people to fill the park. And that’s where Bryan Jones steps in. Wa la! What was a potential problem turned into the best skip school day our kids (and some friends) could have asked for at this point in their young lives.
Official Schedule For The Day:
- Skip school.
- Get let into an amusement park that no one else is allowed into.
- Receive free passes to come back this summer.
- Free snacks.
- Ride rides over and over. Picture this: the roller coaster gets to the end, all the kids yell AGAIN! and the college kid operator says OK and pulls the lever again. Have you ever? In your life?
- Free pizza.
- Get filmed. For a commercial. On TV. Which starts running next week. We are SO gonna be famous.
I thought all day that my favorite part of the day was going to be watching the film crew work. And that was great – I am fascinated by how many people it takes, all working together, to shoot even just a little bit of video.
Plus, I could pretend like I was in a movie. I mean, all that teamwork IS fascinating, but what is really fascinating is that someone gets to step out on the other side of the camera. My favorite side.
We are available for autographs.
And of course, beyond my impending stardom, I always enjoy seeing the youngsters having a good time…
Hands down, though, my favorite part of the day was the last ride. The water ride. Oh yes, friends – don’t think that a overcast, fiftyish degree day is going to stop us. The show must go on. We had to take one for the team. Insert any other cliché here.
I haven’t laughed that hard in a long time. All of us, kids and adults, sopping wet, freezing cold, screaming and shivering and teeth chattering…yelling AGAIN!
What a great day.

i’m still giggling today remembering how darn cold it was yesterday on that ride. oh, and how both you and your groom GENEROUSLY stepped aside to let us get wet first. i would have wet my pants from laughter if i hadn’t been so wet to begin with…
what fun! looks like y’all had a great day!
