Sometimes there are just things I want to let you know about. I usually try to wait until they fit into the theme of something I want to write about (because I have just a TEENSY little bit of perfectionism) but right now there are just too many good things floating around and my head can’t fit them into any type of cohesive anything. So, who’s ready for some incoherent babbling? All right, let’s go.
First of all, there’s my friend, The Short Fat Kid, who actually is The Short Fat Kid no longer, at least as far as his online persona goes. Now, you can find him at the funk box, which is actually a tumblog – which is different from a normal blog in several very important ways that I can tell you absolutely nothing about (that sound you hear is my husband rolling his eyes and taking a deep breath as he begins to explain to me ONCE AGAIN wonkity waanh wah wonk. I hate it when it gets all Charlie Brown teacher voice on me…) Anyway, Guy’s blogging is the style I would officially call hey, look at this! He posts several times a day, always with a link to a site, or a picture, or a t-shirt. I think he’s aided in his endeavors by the fact that he somehow works on and with the web, A LOT (I’m grimacing as I imagine him reading this incredibly apt description). The point is, through him I see lots of stuff that I wouldn’t see otherwise. Some interesting items of late:
- This house. I want to move there. And for everything to stay as completely simple as it looks in those pictures. ahhh.
- Fauxlogism – a website dedicated to made up words! Hmm, perhaps I should tell them about ironical. Here’s my favorite right now. Can’t believe I didn’t think of it first…
- This article about how the more we interact online, the more we interact face to face. Fun to think about how we communicate.
Go on over and visit. Better yet, subscribe.
Onto the next completely unrelated thought: sometime awhile back, my husband set up Relevant Magazine as my automatic homepage. Which is a good thing, because I might not ever read it otherwise – but now, because I see it first, I read articles there pretty regularly. Setting aside my angst about writing about churchy things, and my general dislike of the whole Christian subculture (you know the one, the cheap imitation that only makes money because they’ve slapped “Christian” onto the storefront/book cover/song lyrics…oh wait, I’m setting that aside…) I’m recommending you read this article. She is saying what I want to say right now.
Speaking of saying what you want to say, all you locals – did you know Suzy’s husband Bruce started a blog? Run on over and read his comments about writing and passion. Inspiring. Also in local news, Millie’s back! I can pry my fingernails out of my keyboard now.
Finally, go see Juno. Of course, you know you should already. But did you know that it is also imperative that you rent Stardust? Because it is. They both deserve their own post. Hopefully I’ll get to that soon. After I stop dumping the contents of my (very!) short-term memory directly into your lap.
Thank you very much for the linkage! The description "hey look at this" is spot on. I will have to steal it. Thanks again!
as usual, your mental dump leaves me tingly with anticipation as i steathly scoot ’round the net looking for your snipets.Β
and i’m sure that your sweet chillins would love that house- those floors look wheelie-able
The Heelys will be the cause of my next nervous breakdown.Β That is until there is some new invention designed to simultaneously captivate my children and drive me INSANE.
ahhh, progress…
great links, sb. from fauxlogism, i loved narcessertion (was that it?), but especially agreed with the articles about online connectedness (my favorite thing about freelancing was flex time with family) and materialism. "spot on" is right.
liked this from the relevant article…
“I cannot continue to sit in an entire congregation of people, content with expecting the pastor and the leadership to minister to me while I am rarely joining corporately with my fellow brothers and sisters to tangibly go out and bring restoration to my community.”
not so much this…
“I looked into my closet the other day and discovered that I owned about eight different jackets of various colors and materials. I am not sure why I need eight different jackets…”
